Meat the Need General Manager Update

Kia ora,

Welcome to our Feeding Commmunities update for August! It has been a busy few months behind the scenes.

We've said farewell to our incredible Operations Manager Sarah Gagliardi who has gone to experience the wonders of the world and will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of working with her.

We've also welcomed two new members to the team - Danielle and Zoe and we are so excited to have them on board!

We hope you're all soldiering through one of the busiest seasons on farm, getting some rest and staying nourished and hydrated!

Hav you thought about about raising a spring calf or lamb to pledge to communities in need? Get the kids involved, its a great life lesson for the kids!

The donation of one lamb can provide enough meals to feed one person for nine months, or a family of four for two months. The impact is massive.

Thank you to all our donors, supporters and food banks on the front line - let's continue to change food insecurity in Aotearoa.

Nga mihi nui,
Zellara Holden

Danielle Williams, Stakeholder Liaison

"I was born and bred in California and moved to the Waikato in 2015 following an exchange at the university and falling in love with New Zealand’s beauty and culture of caring. Since then, I’ve enjoyed getting stuck in on a cropping block outside of Morrinsville and have experienced the generosity and manakitanga of our rural communities. I look forward to working with you all to ensure no one goes hungry or unnourished in our country.”

Zoe Sheehan, Marketing Intern

"I’m originally from Martinborough, where I grew up on a small vineyard. I moved to Dunedin at the start of 2022 to attend the University of Otago where I study communications and marketing.

I’m so incredibly excited to be a part of the team, and help make a difference for families in need around Aotearoa."

Vote for Us at Z 'Good in the Hood' campaign!

Good in The Hood - Intro post -3
Map version - Draft - Good in the Hood -3-1

The Z ‘Good in the Hood’ campaign has kicked off and we are excited to announce that we have been selected in 18 of the Z stations across New Zealand.

Good in the Hood is an annual community programme by Z Energy that supports local charities and community groups. Each Z petrol station across the country selects local causes, and customers vote with tokens received from purchases.

The vote determines how a $4,000 pool is divided amongst the chosen charities. Voting is simple but is so beneficial for us. By voting for us with your small token it helps us feed more kiwi families. Pop down to one of the Z stations listed and vote for us! Voting is open from the 26th of August to 22nd September.

Food insecurity on the rise

New Zealand’s food insecurity is skyrocketing, far outpacing similar countries. A recent report from the Food and Agriculture Organisation shows Oceania is the only region where food insecurity is worsening, with New Zealand's rates surging from 10% in 2014-2016 to 16.4% in 2020-2023.

Demand for food parcels is at record highs around New Zealand, and more people are making use of food grants and food banks. Read the Spinoff article here.
